Pastor’s Greeting

Welcome to our church’s website

While we are Wellfleet’s first church established in 1721, we are now blessed to worship in the Fourth Meeting House in a beautiful sanctuary with stained-glass windows built in 1850, an edifice of significant historical importance in the life of our State and Lower Cape region, the First Congregatinoal Church of Wellfleet, United Church of Christ, Wellfleet, Massachusetts is an active, visible, vital, involved, and a dedicated congregation of God’s people. We cherish our spiritual tradition and take pride in our historical heritage but we are very much alive and at work in the present , and we are eagerly looking to the future that God is creating for us. We are graced with the Hook and Hastings Organ and a carillon that the Town Clock housed in our church steeple is equipped with a ship’s bells striking system, to the wonder of many passers by.

In keeping with the life and teachings of Christ Jesus, as an Open and Affirming Church, and a Just Peace Church, we joyfully and unconditionally welcome all people of any age, gender, race, culture, orientation, or ability into our community of faith and affirm the worth of all people as unique individuals made in God’s image. We are open to the special gifts that each person brings and invite each one to participate in the life of our church.

We would like to invite you to worship with us at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We invite you to come and see what the Lord is doing in our midst. In worship we remember with thanksgiving and rejoicing that by God’s grace, we have been made and called to be God’s children. In service to one another and to those beyond this congregation everywhere, we seek to be the persons God has called us to be in Jesus Christ. We invite you to share this pilgrimage with us. We want the First Congregational Church to reflect the welcome, hospitality and diversity of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, to welcome all in Christ’s name, with open arms and open hearts.

If you are new to Wellfleet and to Barnstable County, please consider becoming a part of our community of faith, joining us in worship, praise, prayer, witness, fellowship, and service to the community at large. We encourage you to enrich your Christian faith by exploring and participating in the varied programs and ministries of this congregation. If you are interested in joining in covenant with us and becoming a member of our congregation, please contact us at the church office at 508-349-6877 or by email addressed to wellfleetchurch@gmail.com.
